Welcome

Welcome to the place where rural heritage and Lucketts small-town nature come together through  “Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service”.  For more than 40 years the Lucketts Ruritan Club has striven to meet the community service needs of the people who live, work and play here, while fellowship among members and goodwill outreach to our neighbors in need complete the scope of a member’s activities.

The first Ruritan Club was chartered May 21, 1928, in Holland, Virginia. Daisy Nurney, a reporter for the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot newspaper, suggested the name “Ruritan” shortly after that first club was formed. The word is a combination of the Latin words for open country “ruri” and small town “tan,” interpreted as pertaining to rural and small town life. The first Ruritan Clubs were places where farmers and residents of the towns these farms surrounded could come together and work for the common good.  That tradition speaks exactly to what it means to be a Ruritan in Lucketts today.

The Lucketts Ruritan Club is a place where residents new and well-established can come together in a non-political, non-sectarian organization with the common goal of making Lucketts a better place to live for everyone in the community.
