Recipients of 2023 Scholarships

In 2023, the Lucketts Ruritan Club presented $21,000 of scholarships to seven Lucketts area students. In addition to graduating high school and home schooled seniors this is the first year scholarships were awarded to students going forward to attend Community College or vocational school education.  The Lucketts Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to Lucketts area seniors who have chosen to extend their education and have excelled in their academic and service endeavors.

2023 was the 35th year the Club has awarded scholarships to deserving seniors. Awardees were selected based on academic achievement, school and community service, the student’s essay on their future goals and plan to achieve them, and letters of recommendation. The seven recipients were judged Outstanding and Excellent. Receiving the scholarships in 2023 were:

  • Madison Grove, planning to attend Virginia Commonwealth University, $5,000
  • Georgia Malik, planning to attend Appalachian State University, $5,000
  • Malachi Bailey, planning to attend Christopher Newport University, $3,000
  • Mariah Goodwyn, planning to attend Wake Forrest University, $3,000
  • Elma Hajric, planning to attend Northern Virginia Community College, $3,000
  • Alisa Hart, planning to attend Northern Virginia Community College $1,000
  • Lanie Landavere, planning to attend Hagerstown Community College $1,000

How to apply for a Lucketts Ruritan Scholarship

Graduating seniors may apply in one of two categories of scholarships:

  • Students may apply for a scholarship to attend a four-year college or university.
  • Students may apply for a scholarship to attend a community college.
  • Students will only compete with other students in their category.

Important change: Because of reported delays in the FAFSA process, the deadline for submitting scholarship applications has been extended to March 31, 2024. If you do not have a SARS report, you can submit financial need information as a separate document submitted with your application. If you receive your SARS report by April 15th, please forward it to us.

If you are a Lucketts Area resident and a senior in public or private high school, or a home school student planning to continue your education you are eligible. Lucketts is defined “From the split to the bridge and the river to the ridge”

  • Applications available on this web site October 1, 2023.
  • Applications and all related paperwork are due by March 31, 2024.
  • Award winners will be announced at the Awards Assembly at Tuscarora High School.
