Two nights to
“Meet the Candidates”
October 18 and October 25, 2023.
6 pm to 9 pm
Every four years, Lucketts citizens go to the polls to elect our local representatives to County and State of Virginia government. This year, that slate contains 27 candidates running for 13 public offices who will represent the citizens of Lucketts. The Lucketts Ruritan Club and the Lucketts Elementary School PTA are sponsoring two “Meet the Candidates” evenings at Lucketts Elementary School in mid and late October. Unlike many communities within the Catoctin District, Lucketts has no form of village or town government. The individuals elected in November are our direct representatives to the offices of government that impact our daily lives in Lucketts. These evenings will help to inform Lucketts citizens about the views of each candidate on matters of importance to our community.
Each evening the event will open at 6PM in the school cafeteria with an informal meet and greet session for citizens and all candidates. At 6:45 PM, Melaney Tagg, longtime Lucketts resident and Director of the Venn Diagram Project, will begin to moderate a 90-minute live exchange with the candidates from the stage in the school auditorium.
Lucketts citizens participated in a series of on-line surveys which were used to create questions for the 90-minute, live, moderated forum. The survey allowed citizens to prioritize local issues and submit questions related to their specific concerns. This information built a series of questions, appropriate to each office, and supplied in advance to all candidates. Candidates will be given 90 seconds on stage to offer their response. Responses will be timed. At the conclusion of the exchange, the cafeteria will be available for additional informal meetings with candidates until 9PM.
