Monthly Meetings

The best way to learn more about joining the Lucketts Ruritan Club is to attend a Monthly Membership Meeting. This is the place where the Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service activities of the Club come together for focus. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday evening of every month (except for July and December) at the Lucketts Community Center.

The first thing our members do at every meeting is share fellowship. After the blessing, a home cooked meal is shared by all who attend.  Over dinner, members in attendance catch up on what’s been happening in Lucketts and guests have the opportunity to experience the “flavor” of the Club in more ways than one!  Dinners are prepared by the Ladies of Furnace Mountain Church and served from the Community Center’s kitchen.

An outside speaker attends every meeting and shares a topic of community and Club interest.  Topics range from local government updates, local history, updates from local businesses and overviews from local environmental, cultural and social service organizations. A short business session follows the speaker’s presentation and the evening concludes with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag.

Social Activities

The Ruritan Club offers its members an opportunity to “give back” to the Lucketts community to pick up the work of making Lucketts a thriving place for all to live, work and play. As the members donate many hours to community service through the Club, they also enjoy Ruritan sponsored social occasions that bring members and their families together for fun and camaraderie.

Annual Club Potluck Picnic

The annual summer potluck picnic has been a favorite of Ruritan families. The uproarious fun of an egg toss or three-legged race brings everyone to a level playing field.  Favorite picnic recipes make appearances and musical entertainment makes toes tap. In recent years the Lucketts Ruritan Club joined with the Point of RocksLovettsville/Waterford and Hamilton Clubs to hold a joint picnic. The fellowship that members experience helps to inspire continued service throughout their communities.

All through the years several Lucketts venues have opened their facilities to the Club for the picnic. Most recently Riverside on the Potomac owned by Suzi and Travis Worsham opened their beautiful farm on Spinks Ferry Road to the Club. Other Lucketts locations include SkillsUSA, member’s homes, Tarara Winery, and the Lovettsville Game Club.

The Ruritan Club has supported local musical entertainment. Local singer/songwriter Andrew McKnight graced the 2019 picnic with his latest original songs for Treasures in My Chest.  Other local artists have provided musical backdrops for the summer picnics.

Annual Holiday Dinner & Awards Banquet

The Ruritan Club wraps up the year of community service with a festive holiday dinner banquet and award ceremony. Members celebrate the accomplishments of the Club, recognize special member and non-member community service, and install new officers of the Club.

This wonderful evening starts with a social hour before a roaring fire with lilting musical entertainment and lively conversation.   An hour into the evening, at the sound of a sleigh bell, the banquet hall doors swing open and members and guests are welcomed in and invited to visit the catered dinner buffet. Dessert, awards ceremony and special presentations wrap up the evening.  SkillsUSA has generously hosted the banquet for many years.
